Makeup Tips for Mature Skin

Mature skin is every bit as beautiful as younger skin! Our face is a reflection of our lives, our highs and lows, joys and stresses.

Mature skin is generally defined as skin that is showing signs of aging. People 40 and over are usually considered to have mature skin, but this is a broad definition - some people’s skin shows signs of ageing earlier, while others exhibit them later.

Mature skin is the result of the passage of time on our bodies’ biggest organ, while factors like genetics, lifestyle, and diet, etc. also play a part.

Skincare First

The most important mature skin makeup tip I have is SKINCARE. The healthier your skin, the better your makeup will look. It’s important to prepare your canvas!

As we age, our skin loses its bounce and elasticity as collagen production starts to slow. Aging skin can experience dryness, thinning, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, dullness, lack of tone, etc.

If you don’t already have a good skincare regimen that you like, I recommend the Seint Beauty Skincare line of products!

Makeup Tips for Mature Skin

  • Stipple or dab your makeup into your skin instead of wiping it.

  • Using too much product is often a disservice on mature skin. Choose products that have a lot of color, so a little bit goes a long way.

  • Steer away from layering makeup that can create unwanted added texture.

  • Avoid foundation shades that are too light. When in doubt, shade darker so it melts into the skin.

  • Vibrant colors will add warmth to your face.

Brushes

Using a makeup brush with “fluffier” bristles will apply a more light, “airbrushed” layer of makeup. It’s better to start light and build coverage only where needed.

Recommended brushes:

Perfector Sponge

Use a dampened Perfector sponge to blend excess makeup and keep it from settling into any wrinkles or fine lines.

Setting Powder

Use powders sparingly! Setting Powder can often crease in wrinkles and fine lines, can look “cakey” and dull the natural radiance of your skin.

If you must use a setting powder, make sure to use a finely milled, translucent setting powder.

Demi Colour for Mature Skin

Instead of building up makeup coverage on trouble spots, consider using Demi Colour for additional color correction.

Demi allows you to address excess color in the skin directly using less product, leaving behind an invisible finish that won’t settle in wrinkles or fine lines.
